5 Must-Have Health Apps for 2024 (Recommended by a Naturopathic Doctor)

an iphone screen displaying the top must-have health apps. health apps include gabby, fig, cronometer, alltrails, and ewg healthy living.

These days, it seems like there's an app for everything.

But let's be honest, most of them are just clutter on our home screens.

As a naturopathic doctor, I'm always on the lookout for apps that actually improve my patients' lives—and my own!

Forget the App Store's trending list; these are the five health-related apps you actually need to download:

  1. Gabby: Your Pocket-Sized Mindfulness Coach

    • Mindfulness and meditation in 5 minutes or less? Yes, please! Research shows that meditation can help reduce stress, leading to improved mental health and greater self-regulation. Listen to a guided meditation, a coaching lesson, or one of Gabby Bernstein’s incredible lectures on manifesting.

  2. Fig: Navigate Food Allergies with Confidence

    • Navigating food allergies at the grocery store can feel like walking into a haunted house. No more! Fig is a free app that eliminates the guesswork from reading food labels. Simply enter your food allergies, scan a product, and it will quickly let you know if it's safe to eat!

  3. AllTrails: Your Ultimate Hiking Companion

    • Whether you're an avid hiker or a casual nature lover, AllTrails is your key to discovering new trails and hidden gems. Plus, it doubles as a GPS, which is great for accidental adventures. I was so grateful to have it when I got lost in the Petrified Forest National Park backcountry last year.

  4. EWG Healthy Living: Your Non-toxic Product Guide

    • Worried about the chemicals in your makeup, shampoo, or sunscreen? EWG's app lets you scan barcodes to identify safer and non-toxic products for you and your family.

  5. Cronometer: Fuel Your Body, Track Your Macros

    • A 2018 study showed that ⅓ of adults are not consuming adequate protein. Cronometer takes the focus off calories and helps you track your macronutrient intake, ensuring you get the fuel your body needs.

As a doctor, I'm passionate about empowering my patients with the tools they need to live healthier, happier lives.

These five apps are just a starting point, but they've proven to be invaluable for countless patients.

I hope they'll become valuable additions to your health toolkit, too!
