Don't Settle for Less: Why You Deserve More Than 15 Minute Appointments
In the wise words of Taylor Swift, “I think I’ve seen this film before…”
We’ve all been there. You call for an appointment only to be told they can see you in 6 months. The frustration of this long wait is palpable. You hesitantly accept it and pray things don’t get dramatically worse anytime soon. You show up at the office to wait for a provider who is doing their best and also running behind. You finally get in the room, and before you have a chance to explain your whole situation, the provider says, “Alright, that’s all we have time for today; you can schedule another appointment on your way out.”
It’s 2024. And this is the best we can do?!?!?
No. Thank you.
As someone who has been on both sides of that situation, I can assure you that it serves nobody.
You, the patient, end up leaving the visit feeling unseen, with fewer minutes in your busy day and without any more answers for your situation than when you walked in the door.
On the provider's end, it’s simply bad medicine. We don’t get a chance to know you as a person and the entirety of your situation. Complex problems are prone to getting simple band-aid fixes that don’t lead to true healing. And because your concerns haven’t really been addressed, you don’t feel like coming back, which leads to the worsening of your problem and, in a lot of cases, unnecessary suffering.
So before I started my private practice, I vowed never to do a 15-minute patient visit.
*You deserve more than that*
All of my new patient visits are 90 minutes, and follow-ups are 45 minutes or 1 hour.
I want to hear your whole story. I want to hear about the constant fatigue that prevents you from reaching your goals, the racing thoughts that keep you up at night, and the right knee pain that prevents you from registering for your kid's school fun run. And that can only happen if you have the time you need.
I’m accepting new patients who are residents of Arizona, Vermont, and Washington, DC residents.
